Ok I'm late sorry!

Ally Capellino

The tubular stacking chair, initially conceived by the minds of the Bauhaus group, inspired many British designers between world wars. These chairs have been the mainstay of schools, church halls and factories ever since.

Clothes and accessories designer Ally Capellino put their own unique twist on the concept. A steel-framed set of chairs, originally by British manufacturer Cox of Solihull, was stripped to the frame and upholstered with the same hand-polished leather used in the Ally Capellino brand.

Each chair's upholstery is designed around a particular way that we position ourselves while seated: chairs are named "Legs Together", "Legs Apart", "Knees Up" - the latter with two cavities for the heels to dig into.

The exhibition, creatively named "Bums on Seats", is accompained by a humorous black and white film by Donald Christie. It is being featured in both Ally Capellino shops and the Victoria & Albert museum.
